So today in Thermodynamics, we began discussing engines. Before that, though, the instructor tells a story about a Cadillac CTS that her husband purchased a couple years ago. She mentions that it has another letter at the end that makes it unique, and asks the car guys in the room to take a guess. My response?

Me: "4!"

Every other car guy in the room: "V!!"

Me (berating myself internally): "4 ISN'T A LETTER, DUMBASS! SHE'S NOT TALKING ABOUT AN AWD SYSTEM!"

I made myself look like an idiot, and it was only 9:30 A.M. I'm not going to bother guessing whether said CTS-V (which is most definitely NOT a CTS4) is an LS2-/LS6-powered 1st-gen or the LSA-powered 2nd-gen, as all of those match the "Corvette engine" criterion that she mentioned afterwards (okay, the C6 ZR1 used an LS9, not an LSA, but they're pretty closely related AFAIK). I do know one thing for sure, though: it's gonna be a loooong day.

She's not a car gal by her own admission, so I was thinking along more practical lines. It was interesting to hear about the gearhead that she married, though.

The class itself is pretty tough - I need to be doing better in it than I am now.

There isn't a car that I wouldn't hoon assuming it was running and I was allowed to.

Don't be down on yourself for not being awesome at Thermo. Where I went, the high score at the end of the semester was a 56% and everybody was graded on a curve.

And really, it's a Monday morning... I've made worse mistakes at work on Monday mornings

This particular teacher drops a couple of grades and takes a "make your own curve" approach for the most part, i.e. she isn't particularly inclined to curve the final grades. The class has averaged close to 70% on both mid-term exams IIRC, so I doubt there would be much of a curve anyway.
